"Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile."

William Cullen Bryant

An interesting story with brilliant photography about the geese of Fort Collins, Colorado

FALL BIRTHDAY

By Christa Laird

Fall leaves
Detach themselves
Spin away from
Trunks that held them together
During the years of spring and summer.

The foliage is lighter
The trees are barer
But hopes for new beginnings
Richer
Without the clutter
Of yesteryears.

Let us celebrate October together
You in Winnipeg bidding farewell
To southbound fowls
I, watching the flight of Canada geese
Crossing Minnesota skies
Wondering if their flight
Had been blessed by you.

Build yourself a fire
Watch the dancing flames
Portend new springs
When winter is over
But for now
Relish fall ambers
And a decadent birthday dinner.
